How to Use Yummly to Store Recipes

Yummly is a fab new find if you are a recipe fiend like me. It's a haven of millions of recipes from blogs and websites around the world and it allows you to store all the recipes that you find in one place together. I highly recommend signing up for an account (it takes seconds).

Once you have an account, you can search for recipes on Yummly and "yum" them. That will store them in your Recipe Box. Then, (and this is my favourite part) you can spend ages creating collections and adding the recipes to them. The beauty of this, is that you don't have to repeatedly yum the same recipe to put it in different collections. Once it's in your recipe box, you can put it in as many collections as you like.  So, my Slow Cooker Mexican Chicken recipe is in my dinner collection, slow cooker collection and chicken collection.

If you are scooting around some of your favourite recipe sites or blogs, you might notice that the recipes have the yum symbol on them. You'll see it on mine. That means you can click the yum symbol to yum that recipe and add it to your recipe box. You can also add the Yummly browser extension to your toolbar, so you can yum recipes on sites that don't have the button.

The advantage of using Yummly compared to other sites, or just keeping recipes in your favourites, is that Yummly stores the recipe and lists the ingredients and calculates timings and adds calorie counts! Very handy.

The other bonus is that there's no need to follow people or friend them, you can all the recipes that have been yummed regardless. If all that's not enough for you, there's also an iPad, iPhone and Android app for yumming on the go!

Yummly for Food Bloggers

For bloggers,  it's a great way to get traffic to your blog. I get more traffic, and especially more sustained traffic, from Yummly than I do from Twitter, Facebook and Google + put together. The only place that beats it for traffic is Pinterest. So get your recipes onto both and you can't lose! All you need to do is get an account, add the yummly button to your site for others to yum from,  yum your own recipes, and you'll see an upswing in visits quickly afterwards (in my experience).

Then join the publishing programme and you could get one of your recipes featured on the site too! For more info on their Publishing Network, go here: Yummly Publisher Network

Happy yumming!
